It seems to be a more accurate monitor with a wired connection. I recently gave away my HDMI adapter to a new neighbor. That made everybody happy. I knew I could order another through OWC and it would be here in a matter of days. It arrived, I plugged it into the MacBook Pro and the HDMI cable that goes to the TV and began editing video immediately. I would recommend this item to a friend!

July 10, 2017 I have a Mac Pro from 2010, and I got my employer to buy a modern (2017) Dell UltraSharp U2417H monitor.

Very nice monitor. My Mac Pro has two mini-DisplayPort connections on the video card, and the Dell monitor comes with a mini-DisplayPort to full-sized DisplayPort cable. So I assumed this combination would be no trouble. I did not notice that Dell only talks about hooking the monitor up to a modern Windows machine. Absolutely nothing about a Mac.

It turns out that the modern monitor supports DP-1.2, and apparently the video card on this old Mac Pro supports older versions of Display Port. When I hooked them up, the Mac Pro was certain it was talking to the Dell Monitor (and it even knew exactly what model of monitor it was talking to), but the monitor insisted that there was no video signal coming from the Mac Pro. This put me in the embarrassing position where I would have had to go back to my manager and say 'That nice new monitor that.I. told you to buy?

It won't work with my Mac!' (note that this monitor does work perfectly fine with a newer MacBook Pro that I have - but my MacBook Pro does not need a second monitor!). But the Dell monitor also has an HDMI port. So I bought this m-DP to HDMI adapter and an HDMIHDMI cable, and now my Dell monitor is working great on the Mac Pro.

Embarrassment avoided. I would recommend this item to a friend! Customer Videos.

January 24, 2017 The adapter works perfectly with my mid-2010 MacBook Pro.just don't forget to take the cap off the end that attaches to your computer! It connected with an HDMI cable perfectly. Just needed to plug in speakers to the laptop for a full room to be able to hear the video. You can always count on OWC for the right Mac equipment! I would recommend this item to a friend! November 8, 2016 I've been using it for 8 months now and it works perfectly! I previously had a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter which would cause my laptop to hang almost every time and whenever I bumped it. I was a bit worried about this adapter at first because the monitor occasionally went funny for a second when I plugged it in, but it turns out that it was caused by the HDMI handshake taking longer than usual. A little on the flimsy side construction wise, but for the price, it works extremely well. Just need to be more cautious when removing the HDMI cable, as you could easily tear the adaptor away from the Macbook Pro cable connector. Ensuring you hold the HDMI end of the adaptor firmly whilst removing the cable ensures that it won't pull apart. I would recommend this item to a friend! December 6, 2014 The adapter is very good, strong plastic, very tight connection. However the tight connection with the HDMI caused the case to come off when trying to get the HDMI cord out. It snapped back, but should be better secured. Overall very happy though, crystal clarity from my MacBook 13' 2010 through a 25' HDMI cable to a 53' Hitachi rear projection (1080i, 720p).

It's a special purpose scenario, but the bottom line is the NewerTech Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Video & Audio Adapter filled the need and was less expensive than a similar Apple branded adapter. Verified Buyer Reviewer: Peteranti Location: Cyprus Age: 18-24 Experience Level: Power User Owned Product: less than a month Rating: 4/5 OWC got their facts wrong on AUDIO transfer.

August 21, 2012 It's a great product that works perfectly, but OWC got their facts wrong on providing information for this product. They say it supports the transfer of HD video AND audio from a HDMI cable to your HD-TV and they provide a long list of macs that support this. Thing is, mac and macbook models that where created before 2010, most of them do not support the transferring of AUDIO together with video on their mini-display ports. So, if you have one of those macbooks (like i do, and was mislead by OWC) audio will not be transferred, and you will be required to use an extra cable from your mini-jack port in order to have audio on your preferred device. Google this before considering purchasing. I would recommend this item to a friend!

Response from MacSales.com, Marketing February 20, 2013 The compatibility of this product is correct. It is not a limitation of the adapter, but rather what the Apple mini-Display port outputs on specific models. Apple did not originally include support for audio output via the Mini-Displayport connection and in such case the output is video only.

With such systems, one option is to separately connect digital audio with Toslink or analog cable. Another option would be the Kanex MDP/USB Audio to HDMI Adapter which takes Stereo Audio via USB and injects it into the HDMI stream so you only then need the HDMI cable to go from the adapter to the output device for both video and audio to the display device.

Reviewer: cwa107 Location: Harrisburg, PA Age: 25-34 Experience Level: IT Professional Owned Product: less than a month Rating: 5/5 It just works! April 7, 2011 If it didn't know better, I would have thought this adapter was actually made by Apple. The design of the product, the way it functions and the build quality are just that good.

I initially bought the Apple Mini Displayport to DVI adapter, but then realized how much easier it would be to just use my TV's HDMI port (to have both audio and video simultaneously). Picked up this adapter and was up and running in just a few minutes, with full support for my 720P Sharp Aquos TV, including audio (all you have to do is go into Sound in System Preferences and change the output over to HDMI). There's a lot of similar adapters on the market, but they all seem to have mixed reviews - while this one was a relative unknown, I took the chance on it since OWC is known for solid products - and once again, they have exceeded my expectations. This is a must have for anyone who has a MacBook/Air/Pro and wants to use their relatively modern TV with it.

Verified Buyer Reviewer: Derrick Location: Rochester, NY Age: 25-34 Experience Level: Power User Owned Product: 1-3 months Rating: 5/5 This is the nuts February 16, 2011 Hands down the way to go to hook up your chosen mac to a HDTV. Dongle easily hides in your bag, HDMI port hooks to any HDMI cable and set. Audio transport totally works on machines that support it (although Apple could make that configuration a little more obvious/automatic in a future update - you have got to change your system audio device after connecting.) NewerTech also tried entirely too hard to make this look like an official Apple dongle, the white plastic and styling is spot on. I would recommend this item to a friend!
