Cool 8164 Template For Mac

Labels in AppleWorks are handled as a database Layout, with each visible record in the DB producing one label. To my recollection, the only place in AppleWorks that you will see 'Avery 8164' is in the 'New Layout dialogue, after choosing Labels, or in the New Labels Assistant activated by choosing New Labels Layout in the Layout menu in a database document. If your labels are all identical (eg. A set of return address labels, all with the same address), you can place the mailing information directly onto the Layout using text frames. If you want a different address on each label, then the Layout is used to determine where each line of information on the address will appear, but the information is entered into fields on database records. This is not a 'merge', which involves both a database document and a second word processing or drawing document into which the information in the db is merged. It's a Layout in the db itself, which acts as a window displaying some or all of the information on selected records from the database.

If you want to enter your information onto individual labels, that's pretty simple: Launch AppleWorks. Go File New Database document to open a new db. Create a single text type field in the db.type a name for the field. Click Create, then click Done. (See note 1) Go Layout New Layout.

(NOT New Labels Layout) In the New Layout dialogue, click Labels, then use the popup menu to choose Avery 8146. You'll see a blank page.

Go Layout Layout to enter Layout mode. You'll see a drawing page with a grey boundary line labeled 'Body' running across the page and an unlabeled vertical boundary line intersecting it about half way across the page.

For

These represent the bottom and right edges of a single label. The verticle boundary can't be moved. Take care that you do not accidently move the Body boundary, as this controls the vertical space taken by a single row of labels. Click on the field frame containing the name of your field and use the handles to resize it to fill most of the space within the bondaries of a single lable. Set the Font and Size of text to be inserted in this frame. Go Layout Browse to move from Layout mode to Browse mode. Go Window Page view to turn on Page view.

(You'll see no change in the empty page at this time.) Your database currently contains one (empty) record. Avery 8164 has six labels to a single page, so press command-R five times to create five more (empty) records. (You'll see no change on the page.) You now have a single page template for Avery 8164 labels. (See notes 1 and 2) Regards, Barry Note 1: Although you can enter data directly onto this page, there's no indication of the location of any of the lables.

You can show the location of each label by having AppleWorks enter some dummy data (eg. '.'

into each record as it is created. Click the Option button after Creating the field, then enter '.' (without the quotes) into the Automatically enter: box.

When entering addresses, select this dummy text, then start typing. Note 2: Instead of entering addresses on the label layout, you can use Layout 1, the default 'Standard' layout created by AppleWorks when you make any database. Unlike Labels layouts, the Standerd layout includes a label naming each field in a record, which makes it easier to see where to click before typing. If you have not edited this layout, much of an address will seem to disappear when you move on to the next record. It's still there, and will appear on your labels. Apple Footer.
