Hi all: I just got my new MacBook Pro C2D. Wow - really fast, no whine, no fan noise, actually really quiet and very little heat. It was supposed to come with Paralelles pre-installed by Club Mac.
Unfortunately, it wasn't preinstalled and I'm having a horrible time installing it. Basically, I've only owned macs for the last 20 years. I've gone the forum.parallels.com website for help - doesn't really help. Any suggestions? I can install the program but cannot load XP Pro (aka the Dark Side). I'm really, really happy with my new MacBook but would like to be able to run XP Pro on it for work reasons.

I can create a Virtual Machine using the 'typical' setting. It brings up its 'operations window' so to speak. Here's where I can't get passed. Now, I need to install the actual XP Pro operating system but when I put the CD in the drive and start Paralles, I get a message that 'there is no operating system.' Well, yeah - I'm trying to load it.
The disk disappears of the mac side of the desktop but nothing happens on the parallels side. So, I guess I just must be an absolute moron that I can't seem to load the guest OS onto the machine. I've read the instructions like 15 times. I've done it but I just can't seem to get the guest OS to load!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe the CD is not bootable? Is it a real Windows XP CD? Have you booted a PC with it? Is your Parallels VM hard drive corrupted in some way? If so, the default boot sequence for new VMs is HD, CD, FD so anything on the HD will stop the boot. You could either delete the current VM and try again or change the boot sequence by selecting Edit VM, choose Options and click Booting tab.
Don't forget to click in the window as the VM starts as you'll need to 'Hit any key' so that the Windows installer will boot the CD. Hi fellow Apple folks: It would seem that Paralelles for Mac that you buy at the store or online reseller is not really compatible with the new c2d technology. There is the latest update you can get at the Parallels website which is build '1970.' It's a free download!!!
So, if you have a brand new MBP c2d, the version of Parallels out of the box is NOT going to work. You have to go to their website and download the latest version. You can use your permanent registration key to open the download.
